The Crawfords were a prominent, Amherst County family who first moved to the region in the mid-18th century. Below are several generations of Crawfords and a demonstration of their connection to Elijah Fletcher (via his wife, Maria). The red starbursts indicate family members who owned or lived at Tusculum.
Maria Antoinette married the Vermont newcomer, Elijah Fletcher, in 1813. When Elijah's father-in-law, William Sidney Crawford, died two years later he became the administrator for the Crawford Estate (and Tusculum).
